Minimum Credits Requirement for Graduation

Bachelor (undergraduate) program

  1. The curricula are effective for students enrolled from academic year 2008.
  2. Minimum credits requirement for graduation: bachelor programs: 128 credits (87 required credits, 41 elective credits).
  3. Physical education and service learning are required for freshmen and sophomore and credits will not be counted. Students are not allowed to graduate if fail.
  4. General education (28 credits) are required including Language Courses (8 credits), Core Courses (8 credits) and The Electives (12 credits). All are arranged by Center for General Education. In addition, students are compulsory to take Liberal Classic Lectures 16 hours, Service Learning 48 hours (designated course 18 hours, volunteers training 12 hours, volunteers service 18 hours). These offer zero credit but students are required to satisfy before graduation.
  5. All-out defense education is elective course (1 credit), 2 hours per week. Eight classes are 1-day military service deduction. One semester is 4-day military service deduction, two semesters are 9-day military service deduction, three semesters are 13-day military service deduction and four semesters are 18-day military service deduction. Students taking all-out defense education for four semesters are eligible to enter reserved officer or reserved non-commissioned officer exams.
  6. Service learning hours: service learning (zero credit) plus volunteers training 12 hours, volunteers service 18 hours. Totally 48 hours service learning is required to be eligible for graduation.

*Volunteers basic training is held by Service Learning Center, Offices of Student Affairs. First semester is held at Taichung campus and second is held at Beikang campus. Master program

  1. Education goals: To cultivate professional biotechnology research capability through sophisticated expertise of an innovative application of modern biological science and technology.
  2. The curricula are effective for students enrolled from academic year 2010. The minimum credits for graduation is 30 credits including 10 required credits, 14 elective credits and 6 master thesis credits in two years.
  3. Students are required to pass English testing before graduation. Detailed regulation is in accordance with "Guidelines for testing students' English ability" of CMU.
  4. Students need take Laboratory Safety (zero credit), Research Ethics (zero credit) and Molecular Medicine (3 credits and compulsory) in addition to required courses.

 

PhD program

  1. Education goals: To cultivate professional biotechnology research capability through sophisticated expertise of an innovative application of modern biological science and technology.
  2. The curricula are effective for students enrolled from academic year 2011. The minimum credits for graduation is 30 credits including 10 required credits, 8 elective credits and PhD thesis (12 credits) in three years.
  3. According to article 80 in "Regulations of Direct Admission to Doctoral Program from Master's Program", minimum credits are 30 including those taken in Master program. Thesis credits are excluded.
  4. Students are required to pass English testing before graduation. Detailed regulation is in accordance with "Guidelines for testing students' English ability" of CMU.
  5. Suppose PhD students have not passed the qualifying exam since 3rd year, seminar course is required to take with zero credit.
  6. Course-Lecture on Modern Biomedicine is compulsory to take for PhD students with four credits.
